The necessity of dimensional management is the consequence of unavoidable deviations, which occur in the manufacturing and assembly processes. These must be taken into account throughout the entire product life cycle, starting with the initial ideas and the selection of the product concept, through manufacturing and assembly, to usage.
\nDimensional management is the key to avoiding deviation-related problems and has been a central pillar of the research and teaching activities of the Chair of Engineering Design (KTmfk) for almost 35 years. In addition to national and international cooperation with universities and companies, various aspects of dimensional management are taught in different lectures.
\nMotivated by the lively exchange with industry representatives, who wanted a higher presence of the topic \"tolerances\" for the young generation at German universities, the first Summer School Toleranzmanagement was organized and hosted by the KTmfk in 2013. As in the previous editions of the Summer School Toleranzmanagement, the focus of the event is to get young academics interested in dimensional management, to promote direct and open communication and to establish new contacts. In order to achieve this goal, the participants are given an insight into different problems and approaches from practice. Additionally, students, researchers and industry representatives will be offered a platform to exchange information about methods and tools of virtual dimensional management.
\nThe proceedings contain the written contributions from industry and research presented at the event, with this year's focus on \"Digitalization and Data-Driven Assurance Methods\" in the context of dimensional management.
