Following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the Nuremberg metropolitan region witnessed an outpouring of solidarity, with demonstrations organized and aid measures swiftly implemented. The Friedrich-Alexander-Universit\u00e4t Erlangen-N\u00fcrnberg (FAU) also established extensive support services. Moreover, numerous civil society initiatives not only provided practical assistance to refugees but have continued to sustain discourse on the Russian war of aggression to this day.
\nWithin academia, dialogue surrounding the events in Ukraine has significantly intensified. Since the summer semester of 2022, the Chair of Modern and Contemporary History, with a focus on Eastern European history, has organized a series of symposia and colloquia in collaboration with Ukrainian colleagues and experts. The public lecture series The Ukrainian War in Dialogue, held during the summer semester of 2022, prioritized discussion and exchange. The event featured participants from the Nuremberg metropolitan region alongside Ukrainian guests, some of whom joined via video link from Ukraine.
\nThis book builds on these initiatives and activities, making them accessible to a broader audience. By presenting academic analyses alongside first-hand accounts, the volume seeks to construct a comprehensive picture that integrates the multifaceted impacts of the war. Central to this approach is the imperative to amplify the voices of those directly affected.
