Description
Unavoidable, ubiquitous variations occur in all stages of a product's manufacturing process, significantly affecting its quality and function. These must be taken into account throughout the entire product life cycle, from early ideas and product concept selection to manufacturing, assembly, and use. The dimensional management deals with precisely this task and is therefore an important part of product development. With its various facets, dimensional management has been a central pillar of the research and teaching activities at the Chair of Engineering Design (KTmfk) for almost 35 years. In addition to actively conducting research, the KTmfk also maintains national and international collaborations with universities and companies. The various aspects of dimensional management are also taught in numerous different lecture courses. The first Summer School Toleranzmanagement was organized in 2013, motivated by intensive discussions with industry representatives who wanted to see the topic of “tolerances” given greater prominence in teaching and research at German universities. As in the previous editions of the Summer School Toleranzmanagement, the focus of the event is on inspiring young academics to take an interest in dimensional management, promoting direct and open communication, and establishing new contacts. As in previous editions, participants will once again have the opportunity to learn about the diverse problems of dimensional management and gain insights into different approaches from theory and practice. The proceedings contain the written contributions from industry and research presented at the event, with this year's focus on “Digitalization and artificial intelligence in dimensional management”.
