Description
To ensure adequate healthcare provision in urban and rural areas, the nursing and care sector in Germany increasingly relies on international workers. The study "Gesundheit! Inclusion in the nursing and care sector" (2022-2025) focused on how to shape the employment of these care workers and nurses to achieve sustainability drawing from interdisciplinary perspectives of political science, public health and human geography. Empirical data provided evidence on preparation for Germany and the recruitment from abroad, the arrival at the workplace and at the place of residence as well as retention. Results show that, in addition to an appreciative and non-discriminatory workplace and fostering opportunities for further individual development, a special emphasis should be given to everyday life beyond the workplace. Inclusion is facilitated through participation in social life as well as through access to adequate housing or the access to everyday mobility. Based on the findings, recommendations were developed in the course of a participatory process.
