Description
The present volume offers insights into the field of comparative extremism research – a broad and increasingly significant area of inquiry in light of growing societal polarization. The contributions assembled here are the outcome of a two-semester engagement with extremist phenomena. In the winter semester 2024/25, participants in the master’s seminar Comparative Extremism Research at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg first familiarized themselves with the key concepts, methods, and debates in the discipline. Particular attention was given to the normative premises underlying extremism research and to critical perspectives on them, as well as to the analysis of contemporary manifestations of extremism. Building on this foundation, the summer semester 2025 featured a writing workshop in which the students’ papers were developed—through close supervision and iterative feedback—into contributions ready for publication.
